Former Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer has transitioned to a leading role at Mulilo, a prominent independent power producer.

Following his retirement from Eskom in April last year, he extended his tenure through a two-year service contract, focusing on crucial projects at the Kusile and Koeberg power stations.

However, just three months later, Eskom announced his departure 'by mutual consent'.

With plans to inject over $3 billion (more than R55 billion) into local solar, wind, and battery storage over the next five years, Oberholzer aims to position Mulilo as a key player alongside other electricity generators, including Eskom.

Oberholzer says that, in future, Mulilo will also invest in the transmission network.

“I am in good health, have a sharp mind and 41 years of experience,” he told Moneyweb.

"Let's be positive and hope that this all comes together."
