South African a capella group The Joy added another coup to their performance record, after singing with Doja Cat at the fabled Coachella Festival in California.

The rap superstar herself has South African roots - her father is local actor Dumisani Dlamini, who connected with her mom in the US.

The Joy have also previously shared a stage with other big international names including Jennifer Hudson and Chris Brown.

What is it that draws these international stars to their sound, Sara-Jayne King asks when she chats to three members of the group.

"I'd say it's because we're not just singing because we can sing; we sing because we pour our hearts into the music that we sing."
"It was Doja Cat's team that reached out... Apparently she's been our fan since 2019, so she's been wanting to sing with us for a long time. We were very excited about the invitation."

The five musicians first sang together in a high school choir in a small town near Durban, after which they decided to form the group because 'we loved music'.

The Joy's next, self-titled, album is due for release in June.

Incredibly, the record was recorded in London in one day IN ONE TAKE!

"It was our producer's idea, after listening to us perform live... We were happy to do it because he has spent a lot of time with us, so he understands we enjoy being on stage more than being in the studio."
"It was a great experience... and people will experience different types of moods while listening to the album."
