Bruce Whitfield speaks to Nongcali Rubushe, head of retail and business enablement at the JSE.

If you buy shares on the JSE, how do you know your broker is legitimate?

With scams on the rise, the JSE has launched a new user-friendly, free tool that empowers people looking to invest their money to check whether the financial professionals they deal with are credible, before making any investment decisions.

Many scammers target people who are looking to invest and grow their money. These fraudsters often promise big profits with little or no risk, misleading people into putting their money into schemes that sound too good to be true.

Speaking to Bruce Whitfield on The Money Show, Nongcali Rubushe, head of retail and business enablement at the JSE says the tool allows people to verify whether the people they're dealing with are authorised financial service providers.

"...that allows our retail investors a better level of confidence that the people that they've engaged with are regulated and registered members of the JSE."

"We're finding a lot of people in the market have been susceptible to fraudulent activity. People and institutions are often pretending to be registered members of the JSE."

- Nongcali Rubushe, head of retail and business enablement - JSE

"...you're able to verify whether or not that institution or name is actually registered with the JSE or is a financial services provider."

- Nongcali Rubushe, head of retail and business enablement - JSE

"...it gives a certain level of confidence that people would not have had before, about the people they're engaging with are actually authorised to do so."
