'Golden Girls' come to Cape Town theatre for first-time ever from May to June
Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, Sophia is that you?
Pippa Hudson speaks to Gwendolen Ward, Tanya Smith, Katherine Fillmore and Kerith Coulson who play the 'Golden Girls.'
The Masque is putting on a celebration and adaptation of the 'Golden Girls' this May!
The 'Golden Girls' is an ICONIC sitcom from the late 80s and early 90s about four mature women living together in Miami and experiencing the joys and angst of their golden years.
Strong-willed Dorothy, spacey Rose, lusty Southern belle Blanche and matriarch Sophia may occasionally clash but they're there for one another in the end - remember them?
Now, for the first time ever in Cape Town, four episodes have been adapted for the stage and fans are waiting with bated breath for this one.
The adaptation is directed by Wayne Ronné and the stars who were deeply loved through decades will be played by:
- Gwendolen Ward as Dorothy
- Tanya Smith as Blanche
- Katherine Fillmore as Rose
- Kerith Coulson as Sophia
The script is filled with 'wit' and 'intelligence', tackling deep conversations and some dancing with these iconic characters' unique personalities.
The 'Golden Girls' say the challenge is having such an iconic show spanning over decades condensed into four episodes but the show is an 'interpretation of a show that's kept to the script and keeping the integrity of these characters.'
The four say they are becoming like the real-life 'Golden Girls' - learning and growing from each other and most importantly are all proud to play their characters.
