Slave Route Challenge road closures
The Slave Route Challenge will once again see thousands of participants running and walking through the city centre on Sunday.

CAPE TOWN - The Slave Route Challenge will once again see thousands of participants running and walking through the city centre on Sunday.
The various races will take runners and walkers past areas of cultural and historic significance as it traces the city's "slave route".
All the races start in front of the City Hall and depending on the race distance, will see participants run/walk through District 6, Gardens, the Company Gardens, Wale Street, BoKaap, Sea Point (Cape Town Stadium), Green Point (Fort Wynyard), the CBD and then head back down Darling Street into the Castle of Good Hope and then finish at the Grand Parade.
The half marathon (21km) starts at 7am, the 10km run and 10km big walk at 7.30am and the 5km fun run/walk at 7.40am.
Road closures:
- Darling Street between Plein and Buitenkant streets - 4:00 – 11:30
Lower Buitenkant Street between Strand and Darling streets - 6:00 – 11:30
- Sir Lowry Road westbound between Tennant and Buitenkant streets - 6:00 - 8:00
- Darling/Hanover Street between Tennant Street - Sir Lowry Road - 6:00 - 8:00
- Hanover Street between Christiaan – Tennant streets (westbound closed, contra-flow traffic on eastbound.) - 6:00 - 8:00
- St John's / Hatfield streets between Roeland & Orange - 6:00 - 8:00
The following roads will be affected by lane closures for the duration of the race:
- Roeland Street - west-bound between McKenzie and St John's Street
- Orange Street - south/east-bound between Government Ave and Hof Street
- Wale Street - both directions between Adderley and Buitengracht streets
- Long Street - right lane between Wale and Bloem streets
- Loop Street - right lane between Bloem and Wale streets
- Somerset Road - south/east-bound between Ebenezer and Chiappini streets
- Beach Rd, north/west-bound between Granger Bay Boulevard and Hotel School
- Granger Bay Boulevard - north/east-bound between Fritz Sonnenberg and Beach Road
- Adderley Street, south/west-bound between Riebeek and Wale streets.
