JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says the signing of the anti-gender-based violence (GBV) and anti-corruption bills into law is a step towards creating a moral society.

On Friday, Ramaphosa signed both laws during a public ceremony at the Union Buildings.

He said this was a historic moment for the country, as these laws would help fight two issues that had plagued the country for years.

Ramaphosa said while corruption and GBV are two different crimes, their consequences are equally devastating.

The government is committed to ending both GBV and corruption, he added.

“These forms of criminality are what's holding our country back and preventing us from realising our full potential.”

Ramaphosa has calling on civil society and government entities to work together in making these pieces of legislation a success.
