CAPE TOWN -Despite receiving 591 objections, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) declared the 2024 elections free and fair on Sunday night.
The IEC said less than 1% of objections were raised across the country.
Political analyst Michael Atkins said claims of rigging and fault with the election results had no foundation.

"The question of individual objections is not new, we've always had it and they get decided and corrected individually."
However, Atkins said, mistakes do happen even though they may not affect the final outcome of the results.
"That problem of not recording votes, it is more common than people realise. So this would take a civil society and coordinated political party effort to do fibre checking and more consistent checking and preferably before the deadline."
Atkins said fine-tuning the election process would create more confidence in the IEC for future elections.
