JOHANNESBURG - As the school winter holidays come to an end this week, the N3 Toll Concession has warned of anticipated high traffic volumes on the route on Sunday.

This also comes as the Durban July weekend in eThekwini comes to an end.

The toll says the N3 will be busier than usual in the northbound direction towards Gauteng from midday, as travellers make their way back to their respective areas.

The South African Weather Service also warned of an intense cold front from Sunday into Monday, which is set to come with strong winds.

The concession's COO Thania Dhoogra has cautioned motorists.

"Traffic volumes on the N3 toll route are likely to increase during the day as many travellers make their road trips home ahead of the reopening of schools this week. Road users are advised to pay close attention to changing weather conditions on the route as the South African Weather Service has warned of an intense cold front and strong winds. Please plan ahead and be ready for all possibilities."
