Social Development Deputy Minister Hendricks to engage Gauteng NPOs over funding

JOHANNESBURG - Social Development Deputy Minister Ganief Hendricks is set to engage Gauteng non-profit organisations (NGOs) at Harmony Primary School in Lenasia on Sunday.
Several non-profit organisations (NPOs) that provide welfare services to vulnerable people are at risk of imminent closure.
The NPOs are funded by the Social Development Department, but they remain in the dark about funding and service-level agreements.

Some organisations in Gauteng took the department to court in May due to delays in funding allocations and subsidy payments.
The Gauteng High Court ordered the department to inform all NPOs of the outcome of their funding application status by May and to issue approved NPOs with service-level agreements by the end of that month and pay subsidies within seven days of receiving the signed agreements.
SECTION 27, which represents the organisations, said the closure of these NPOs would have an adverse impact on the beneficiaries they served.
Despite these efforts, several organisations have already closed their doors.
