CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Disaster Management has activated its emergency teams following a yellow level six warning predicted to hit parts of the province over the weekend into Monday.
This comes after the South African Weather Service upgraded its initial yellow level four warning forecast on Saturday.
Yellow level six is accompanied by severe thunderstorms leading to flooding and large amounts of small hail.
Disaster management is urging residents to stay safe and warm.
It says services are also being activated to support vulnerable people and those impacted by the inclement weather.
Provincial Disaster Management executive director, Colin Deiner, said that all authorities were on alert for any incidents.
"The water in the dams are being monitored by the Department of Water and Sanitation, and we are receiving updates. We are also asking the public to cooperate - if people don't need to travel please do not travel."
