Land Reform Minister wants to ‘return land to original owners’

PAC leader Mzwanele Nyhontso has been appointed as the Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development.
He has stated his intentions to amend the Constitution to address land dispossession and ‘return land to the original owners.’

The party does not support expropriation of property without compensation but believes that there are barriers to land reform at the expense of African communities.
According to Hall, the Minister has largely taken a constructive approach and understands that land issues are complex.
“He has been quite modest in saying that he will not pretend the PAC has won elections.”

She adds that one of his priorities is addressing and resolving thousands of restitution claims that have been made in the last 25 years, rather than historical claims.
“The PAC has never had a particular priority on addressing Khoi-San claims.”
