Nivea (owned by Beiersdorf) has partnered with the Thanda Community Centre to address critical needs of a community in the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal by providing essential support.
“We provided amenities in the community that really makes it a beacon of hope for the entire community – libraries, playgrounds, activities for gogos to get together, girl empowerment and leadership for boys.”
- Godwin Harrison, Managing Director – Beiersdorf
The partnership started with six classrooms and has expanded further into the community and is also providing much needed support for children living with disabilities.
“I think there is a lack of understanding on what the kids are actually going through… due to that misunderstanding they are kept behind closed doors.”
- Godwin Harrison, Managing Director – Beiersdorf
Beiersdorf has also launched its Care Beyond Skin Day volunteering programme.
This gets employees worldwide involved in the change the company is trying to make.
Harrison says it is important for corporate South Africa to get more involved in social matters.
“In today’s world, corporates have a huge amount of influence not just in terms of the economic impact, but their ability to create change.”
- Godwin Harrison, Managing Director – Beiersdorf
“In the socially conscious landscape we live in today, consumers don’t only care about the prices of the products they buy but also care about the social and ethical implications of their purchases.”
- Godwin Harrison, Managing Director – Beiersdorf
