JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) says its national lekgotla will not supersede the outcomes already adopted at the Cabinet lekgotla of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

The ANC held a strategy session - running over a few days at the Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park for its members who are deployed to various government portfolios.

These include all ANC mayors at metro municipalities, premiers and opposition leaders at the houses the ANC doesn’t govern.

The ANC said it has identified three key areas where it needs to improve - making the economy work, improving governance in areas under its jurisdiction and being responsive to the daily issues of the public.

The party’s acting national spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi said the lekgotla sought to reinforce the GNU outcomes for all its members.

“All leaders of the ANC, including in the party, must be operating on the basis of a single plan across the board. Yes, the plan has variations depending on what the situation in each locality is but the broad trust must be the same, the sense of urgency must be the same.”

Godlimpi said the party would no longer be complacent with its accountability framework, which is an in-house tracker of how its public representatives are implementing the party’s outcomes in government.
