Olympian Candice Lill faced a tragic setback in Sunday’s cross-country cycling race when her back wheel shattered.

She says she had ridden a course like this many times, and this tyre accident was just a freak accident.

While this bursts any hopes of achieving a medal, she did not let it stop her from finishing the race.

Lill was in 10th place on the second lap when her back wheel gave out and she had to run to the tech tent to get a replacement.

She may have finished in 20th, but she says she gained even more passion to achieve at the World Championships in Andorra at the end of August.

She adds that she is really glad she pushed through to finish, and many have told her they are inspired by her dedication.
