CAPE TOWN - Five men accused of planning a cash-in-transit heist in Khayelitsha are expected to appear before a magistrate on Thursday.
They were nabbed in Town Two on Monday night after police foiled a planned cash-in-transit robbery in the township.
Eight other would-be robbers were killed in a shootout with police.
Police said that when they approached the house where the robbery was planned, they were met with a hail of bullets from the suspects.
Police say they returned fire, killing eight of the 13 gunmen instantly.
Thirteen firearms, most of them high-caliber rifles, as well as explosives were found at the scene.
Five gunmen were arrested, four of them from the Western Cape and one from Gauteng.
Police have not ruled out more arrests as the investigation continues.
