JOHANNESBURG - As the City of Johannesburg remains in a leadership limbo, political party Al Jama-ah says it believes a political plot is behind calls for the city’s mayor Kabelo Gwamanda to step down.
Gwamanda is accused of misgovernance and mishandling the city’s finances, adding to the metro’s already existing issues.
While the African National Congress (ANC) previously confirmed Gwamanda was ready to resign this week, Al Jama-Ah said a deal had not been struck about Gwamanda’s future.
Al Jama-Ah leader, Ganief Hendricks, said the calls for Gwamanda to resign were not based on merit.
"The widespread protest is a political protest, it’s not on merit. It’s to put the DA [Democratic Alliance] and the Zionists back into power, to put the whites back into power. That’s why there’s a white protest by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and OUTA [Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse], and funded by Zionists."
