CAPE TOWN – The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party has again shuffled its members of Parliament (MPs) and will be replacing 15 of them.
The party has written to Speaker Thoko Didiza informing her of the party’s decision to replace certain members after "depleting" its national list of candidates as required by law.
Didiza has also written to the members informing them of the party’s decision to fire them.
The removal of the MK Party MPs comes soon after Parliament wrote to the party informing it that its lists were not compliant.
The party had also been unable to have MPs like Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama sworn in.
Parliament wrote to the party informing it that its lists were not compliant, and the party was forced to sort it out by ensuring certain lists are “depleted” to allow for supplementation as required by law.
In its letter to Parliament, the MK Party requests the speaker for the supplementation of its now depleted national list of candidates for the purposes of filling vacancies in the national assembly.
It will now be up to Parliament to communicate when the MK’s new MPs will be sworn in.
