CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) said that Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s upcoming National Health Insurance (NHI) roadshow was nothing more than an "expensive swindle" intended to "charm" South Africans.
DA Health spokesperson, Michele Clarke, said that the truth was that the contentious National Health Insurance Act was signed into law despite the "myriad" of objections and warnings from the DA.
"Dr Aaron Motsoaledi’s announcement of a 'massive roadshow' to consult with stakeholders on the National Health Insurance (NHI) Act is nothing more than an expensive swindle."
Clarke said the party would continue its objection of the legislation which will give access to universal healthcare for all South Africans.
"The NHI will not address the underlying issues in our healthcare system; it is financially unfeasible, an election gimmick, and will burden South Africans with increased taxes."
