JOHANNESBURG - As the country continues to keep the lights on, Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says government is on track to implement the country's Energy Action Plan.

The plan is part of interventions to improve the performance of Eskom’s existing power stations and to add new generation capacity to the grid in a bid to end load shedding.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet briefing in Pretoria on Thursday, Ntshavheni told media that work to overturn the embattled power utility has gained momentum.

There has been no load shedding since the beginning of Eskom’s current financial year, making it four months without the crippling power cuts.

The last time the country had this much reprieve was in 2020.

Eskom previously announced that the energy availability factor, which measures performance at power stations, has improved over the past few weeks.

Despite the implementation of load reduction in some areas, Ntsavheni said there's light at the end of the tunnel.

"This is an important enabler for economic growth and has a positive impact on quality of life allowing citizens to continue with their daily activities unhindered," said Ntsavheni.

She added that work is also being done to address water shortages in parts of the country.
