Today is International Cat Day! What your kitty's fur colour says about their personality...

Cat mommas and poppas, it's time to celebrate your fur baby/babies (even more) today with some extra cuddles, boops on their noses (you know what we mean) and a treat or five... because #InternationalCatDay is here.

Created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, International Cat Day is celebrated on 8 August annually.

Cats are full of personality, some more than others, and scientists say that's largely due to their fur colour.

So, here's what your cat's fur might say about their personality:

Grey cats:

They are typically shy, aloof and intolerant with a reputation for having a mischievous and loving temperament.

Orange cats:

Can be trainable, friendly and calm.

Black cats:

They typically display fewer unusual personality traits.

Ginger cats:

These babies have distinctive personalities, with owners saying they are gregarious, extroverted and unreserved.

Most ginger cats are male, with only one in three being female – and those females have a reputation for being particular and demanding.

White cats:

Although the survey results show that white cats are aloof and not as friendly, many people claim that a white coat evokes a perceived personality of calmness and shyness.

Many white cats with blue eyes are deaf or deaf in one ear.

So, this perceived ‘aloofness’ could be explained by the cat being deaf.

Tuxedo cats:

Black and white felines – also known as tuxedo cats – were thought to be antisocial and standoffish.

However, these cats are also smart, affectionate and playful.

Tortoiseshell cats:

Easy to train, yet intolerant.

However, it’s not uncommon for tortoiseshell cats to be hot-tempered and feisty, due to the unique pattern of their fiery coats.

Tabby cats:

Usually bold and active.

Tabbies are distinguished by characteristic striped markings and come in a variety of brown, grey or ginger coats.

Some think the brown tabby personality is feisty, perhaps because their camouflage is similar to their wild ancestors while grey tabbies are thought to be calmer and more amicable.

Tricolor cats

One word: stubborn

Bicolor cats

One word: tolerant

Now tell us cat parents; how true is this one for your cat?
