Sara-Jayne Makwala King spoke to Lisa Mazaleni, personal stylist, image consultant and founder of The Style Up.
Listen to their conversation in the audio clip below.
Navigating the world of fashion can be challenging if you have a fuller figure.
Mazaleni emphasises that knowing your body shape, no matter your size is a fantastic tool to have.
"Not picking what loves you back is a big issue...the minute you start fidgeting or tugging at your clothes or pulling on an outfit, it's not the one for you. If you can't walk five steps without tugging, it means you're uncomfortable and we can see that and we pick up on that energy. So, pick what loves you back, pick what feels comfortable, what makes you feel amazing."
- Lisa Mazaleni, The Style Up founder
"It starts with mindset. Really sit with yourself and ask yourself what is right with my curves versus what is wrong with my body. Daily affirmations are so important."
- Lisa Mazaleni, The Style Up founder
Mazaleni recommends some of the staples plus-sized people should have:
- Great fitting underwear
- Wide-leg pants and straight-leg pants
- Wrap dresses
- Buttoned-down shirts
- Jumpsuits
- A good pair of curvy jeans (if you are a jeans person)
"There are also people that are trying to have your curves...also remember that you're also an ideal for someone else."
- Lisa Mazaleni, The Style Up founder
