South Korea’s mission to combat its low birth rate just reached a new level.

Its second most populated city, Busan is now paying people to get married.

The country's population has reached a critical point with the birth rate falling to just 0.72 children per woman.

According to the Daily Mail, the pilot project is targeted at singles between the age of 23 and 43.

Singles will be invited to events to meet potential love matches.

For each match formed both parties will receive $604 (about R10,700).

If their parents meet in preparation for marriage, they will receive an additional $1,200 (about R21,300).

A walk down the aisle will earn them $24,000 (about R426,000).

They will also be given a $36,000 (about R640,000) deposit towards a house or $960 (about R17,000) a month in rent for five years.
