Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his final squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and some big names were excluded.

Bafana will begin its qualifying campaign by hosting Uganda at Orlando Stadium on 6 September before travelling to South Sudan on 10 September.

The top two group finishers will qualify for the tournament in Morocco in December.

The 23-man Bafana squad blends youth and experience.

Star players Rushwin Dortley (Kaizer Chiefs) and Thalente Mbathe (Orlando Pirates) were among those names.

However, several big names were omitted.

Percy Tau and Bathusi Aubaas miss out while Captain Ronwen Williams is injured.

Broos said William’s absence is a huge blow for the team.

“If you have a guy like Ronwen who will not be with us in the two games, that is a big problem. He is not just a good goalkeeper, he is also a good captain.”

Goalkeepers Ricardo Goos, Veil Mathwa, and Sipho Chaine will be between the posts.
