Climate change is causing parts of the border between Italy and Switzerland to melt away.
Both nations have agreed to redraw their maps under the iconic Matterhorn Peak to reflect melting glaciers.

These changes were agreed upon in 2023 and the Swiss government officially approved it near the end of September.
The agreement will be published as soon as Italy approves it.
In 2023, the Glaciers around Switzerland shrunk by 4%, the second-biggest-ever yearly loss.
In 2022, the glaciers shrunk by 6%.

The melting glaciers have revealed the bodies of climbers who got lost in the Alps and the remains of a plane crash.
