JOHANNESBURG - A case of assault has been opened against officers from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), who are from the Booysens police station.

This follows an outcry, after a video went viral on social media showing two officers physically assaulting a motorist near Southgate Mall.

In the footage, the motorist, Thulane Msimango, can be seen saying he was attacked because he refused to pay a bribe.

RTMC’s spokesperson, Simon Zwane: “We are aware of the incident. We have initiated an internal investigation. The officer have also laid charges of assault, resisting arrest, and damage to state property. We must trust that these processes will reveal the truth and we must allow them to run their course.”
