JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is scheduled to hold its third elective conference - formally known as the National People's Assembly between the 12th and 15th of December.

EFF president Julius Malema confirmed this during a media briefing at the party's headquarters on Thursday afternoon.

He said the conference would be held at the NASREC Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

The National People's Assembly is a gathering of EFF branches that aims to elect new leaders – who will serve until 2029 - and reform the organisation's policies.

Malema says preparations are under way to ensure the party's third national conference is free of disruptions.

"Registration of all delegates will take place at the University of Johannesburg Soweto campus on the 12th of December, starting from 10am. All delegates from branches, regions and provinces will be transported to the registration venue, and accommodation in various hotels around Johannesburg with daily shuttles to Nasrec Expo Centre.

2100 BRANCHES QUALIFY TO ATTEND EFF’S NATIONAL PEOPLE'S ASSEMBLY

Over 2100 branches of the EFF have qualified to attend the organisation’s elective conference.

Only branches that received at least 10% of the vote in their wards during the May 29 elections are eligible to participate in the conference.

The term of the EFF's current leadership will come an end in December, following their election at the 2019 National People's Assembly.

Of the 2,123 branches eligible to attend the upcoming conference, Malema said only half are fully prepared for the gathering.

He has, however, emphasised that the party has tightened requirements for branches to qualify for a space at the conference.

“A total of 1,100 branches met, elected new leadership and programmes of action and delegates to the NPA. A branch that meets the requirements is a branch that has 100 paid-up members who are registered to vote in their branch.”
