CAPE TOWN - A State witness who admits to being involved in "Steroid King" Brian Wainstein's murder said criminal intelligence officers were paying him to be an informant.

The witness, who can only be identified as 'Mister X', has been testifying in the high-profile trial against alleged underworld figures, Jerome "Donkie" Booysen, Mark Lifman, and Andre Naude.

The trio and ten co-accused face 36 charges for various crimes, including the murder of Wainstein in August 2017.

Mister X has already testified to being present when Booysen, Lifman, and Naude allegedly plotted Wainstein's murder.

He also admits to being involved in the murder, in a plot to take over Wainstein's steroid business and pay proceeds to Booysen, Lifman, and Naude.

On Wednesday, he told the court he was also in communication with criminal intelligence police officers, sharing information about the steroids operation.

Mister X said he received R120,000 for sharing information that helped the officers make steroid busts.

The trial continues on Thursday.
