The supply of unleaded petrol and diesel in Cape Town was disrupted for several days due to an 'operational upset', or unplanned shutdown, at Astron Energy’s refinery, South Africa’s only one on the coast.

Recently, BP South Africa also confirmed that its service stations in Cape Town are experiencing fuel shortages.

Magafela notes that the Astron refinery is stable.

He adds that by Friday, service stations should have fuel.

"At this stage, the backlog of orders that still need to be delivered to these service stations... according to our members, they're saying that by Friday all of this should be cleared."
