Veteran David Warner's lifetime ban from holding any leadership role within Australian cricket, imposed after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, has now been lifted.
Warner was widely portrayed as the primary antagonist in the infamous "Sandpaper-gate" incident in Cape Town, where he conspired with then-captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft to alter the ball's condition illegally.
The decision to lift the ban comes after the 37-year-old presented his case to a three-member panel seeking a revision of the original sanction.
The panel concluded that Warner met all criteria for the ban to be immediately lifted, citing his "respectful and contrite tone" and his acceptance of responsibility for his actions.
"Although he is retired from international cricket, he will be able to take leadership roles in club cricket."
