JOHANNESBURG - UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader Jacob Zuma has called on the organisation’s structures to back its new secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu.
On Sunday, the party announced Shivambu would be filling the vacant post left by Sifiso Maseko three months after leaving the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)
Maseko resigned from the party last week, after being reinstated to his job in the Gauteng Department of Health.
Maseko had been suspended since 2022, pending the finalisation of a corruption investigation.

During the unveiling of Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Willies Mchunu as new MK Party provincial leaders, some supporters publicly showed their frustration with the party.
They accused the party of parachuting new members into top positions while overlooking old ones.
The party's head of elections, Magasela Mzobe, said Shivambu was the most qualified person for the job.
"President Zuma calls upon all members of the MK to give the necessary support to the newly appointed secretary-general as he executes his mandate," Mzobe said.
The party turns one next month. And so far, at least three people have occupied the position of secretary-general before Shivambu.
