A video appearing to show damage to the pillars supporting the President Steyn Street Bridge in Pretoria has gone viral.

The video shows crumbling concrete and what appears to be cuts into the bottom pillars.

This has sparked public outcry as people worry the bridge is on the brink of collapse.

Moya says the cuts are part of the hinge design of the bridge and not an act of vandalism.

She will inspect the bridge with engineers to ensure that nothing has happened to affect its structural integrity.

“If we cannot assure the residents that the integrity of the structure has not been compromised then it is not going to alleviate their fears.”
