President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed leaders at the G20 Summit, warning that the world faces numerous challenges that threaten global peace and justice.

He emphasised that South Africa’s G20 presidency presents a unique opportunity to drive reforms in global governance.

The G20 is a powerful economic forum representing 85% of the global economy, 75% of world trade, and 67% of its population. 

South Africa will assume the presidency of the G20 on 1 December, taking over from Brazil.

Carvalho notes that this presidency marks a significant moment for South Africa and the Continent. He highlights the importance of ensuring that African priorities are effectively represented.

Regarding the world's ongoing conflicts and wars, Carvalho says South Africa’s current role is less emotionally driven.

He believes South Africa is well-positioned to bring pragmatism to negotiations, fostering more constructive and realistic discussions.
