Road closures in Cape Town CBD over Rugby SVNS weekend (7-8 December)

Africa Melane speaks to Jan de Koning, Editor at Rugby365 and to Alderman JP Smith, City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security.

Listen below.

This weekend (7-8 December), Cape Town welcomes the world for the SVNS World Series, with the Blitzboks eager to end their home tournament drought dating back to 2015.

Uncapped talent Zander Reynders and seasoned star Mfundo Ndhlovu, making his Cape Town debut, bring a fresh blend of energy and experience to the squad.

Amid the hustle and bustle expected over the weekend, the City has advised residents and commuters to take note of road closures while the premier events are ongoing.

In addition, the Cape Town SVNS plans to make history by undertaking to break the world record attempt for the largest-ever Amapiano dance-off at a rugby match.

Fans have been invited to dress up and form part of the ‘Amapiano #NoDNAJustRSA’ dance. The dance will be led by two-time world hip-hop champions, the Street Stylers, and is set to take place on Sunday, 8 December 2024.

As always, festive gees is expected; Smith and De Koning agree.

Amapiano artists Tyler ICU and Kamo Mphela will headline this year’s SVNS.

Furthermore, the event will also feature DJ Ready D, Roger Goode, Neon Dreams, Gremlin, acrobatic performances and so much more!
