JOHANNESBURG - Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said delays in infrastructure development are the result of funding challenges and approval hold-ups.

ACSA is briefing the media on its annual peak season update.

The peak travel period for the organisation started in October and is expected to run until March 2025.

ACSA relies on a regulatory body to approve tariffs that fund its operations and maintenance.

Its tariff approval came in January, but the actual funding only arrived in April.

The organisation said this eight-month gap has had far-reaching impacts, including affecting operations that directly impact passengers and airlines.

ACSA CEO Mpumi Mpofu said tender processes are also underway for several projects.

She remains optimistic about the company’s recovery and future developments.

“We are at this stage after tender, still in tender in some of them, and you will see the implementation. The good story is 2024 is the year most of these things start hitting the ground, and you’ll be able to see the impact.”

Mpofu believes the public will start seeing major improvements as early as 2025.
