DURBAN - The Umkhonto Wesizwe party (MK Party) said that it will contest power in all municipalities across the country in the 2026 local government election.
The party believes it has the potential to win a number of municipalities in the local polls.
This after it became the third largest party in the country in less than a year of its existence - following the general election this year.
Party Secretary General Floyd Shivhambu said, "there won’t be a municipality where we are not going to put full-force, that applies to the Cape metro we are going to contest against the Democratic Alliance there in full-force."
He said that based on the May election results which the party believes were rigged, they stand a chance to perform well come 2026.
"What we are going to do successfully is to defend the gains which Umkhonto Wesizwe has already here in the province of Kwazulu-Natal. We are number one in all the 11 regions."
