Mayor Cyril Xaba says the safety of holidaymakers and residents in the coastal city has been prioritised throughout the festive period.

DURBAN - The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says it's pleased that the festive season has been without incident - citing improved safety.

Provincial police say thousands of officers deployed in the province will remain in their posts until the month ends. 

Xaba spoke to journalists at a roadblock on New Year’s Eve.

"As it is now, I am safe that this time around we've upped our game and that this time we are likely to have more reduced fingers of accidents - but we want that to be the culture, it must engrave in our own system."
