The South African music industry mourns the loss of legendary singer Winnie Khumalo.

She passed away on Tuesday (7 January) after a brief illness.

Khumalo’s former producer Twala says she was in such good spirits when he surprised her with a visit over the weekend. 

The pair discussed an exciting upcoming project he wanted her to take part in.

“She was healthy, nothing [was wrong]. She even sang... she was so excited.”

“She started her career at an early age… She is one musician that you know was not pompous, any time you wanted her to come into the studio, she was always available. It is a big loss.”
