CAPE TOWN - The community of Delft in Cape Town has urged Social Development Minister Nokuzola Tolashe to bring social grant services closer to the people.
Tolashe met the community at Rosendaal Secondary School on Thursday, as part of her mission to assess social grant services in Cape Town.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has been plagued by several challenges over the years, including late payments of grants to beneficiaries.
Delft residents said accessing social grant services was a mission for them as they had to travel far from where they lived.
Community activist, Sheila Vusi, said the office was also small to accommodate the fast-growing population of Delft.
"We always talk about mobile offices, that would be a good idea. We have lots of spaces in Delft, and they can use one of those sites to build an office to help the people."
The minister said she was engaging the Public Works Minister to secure more spaces to house SASSA offices.
