South African short film ‘The Last Ranger’ has been nominated at this year’s Academy Awards.

The isiXhosa film is up for Best Live Action Short.

It is directed by Cindy Lee, produced by Six Feet Films and supported by Mdoda, executive producer for Rose and Oaks Media.

While most people would be waiting in anticipation and jumping around when they heard the good news, Anele was… sleeping?

“I was sleeping… I was just so nervous… I was like nothing is going to change if I go to bed… so I slept. I woke up to 16 missed calls… the one vibration I did hear came from Cindy Lee, the director… She was like, ‘So, how are you feeling?’, I said, ‘About what?’.”

Inspired by true events, ‘The Last Ranger’ tells the story of Thandi, a rhino that miraculously survived a poaching attack and the courageous woman who fought to protect these animals against all odds.
