DURBAN - The five men linked to the disruptive protesting at the uMhlathuze local municipal offices last week return to court on Tuesday.
The group was arrested for the chaos that ensued when Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters marched to the north coast economic hub, demanding that three of the party's expelled councillors be removed from their posts.
During the protest, a window was pelted with stones, and a glass door was also damaged in the process.
The five men are charged with public violence and malicious damage to property linked to its destruction during the protest.
The protesters were trying to prevent a council meeting from taking place last week.
They said the party recalled the three EFF councillors, meaning their seats were vacant.
This led to chaotic scenes, with police firing rubber bullets at the protesters.
The arrested group appeared before the Richards Bay Magistrates Court.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal said the matter will continue on Tuesday.
