Boxer John Cooney (28) dies after sustaining brain injury in title fight

Irish Boxer John Cooney passed away at the age of 28.

He sustained a brain injury during a title defence bout on 1 February. 

The fight was stopped in the ninth round and Cooney was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery. 

His death was confirmed on Saturday (8 February), seven days after the fight.
