Cape Flats Safety Forum calls for deployment of SANDF to stamp out gang violence
This comes after Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile stated that there was no need to deploy the military into the area.

JOHANNESBURG - The Cape Flats Safety Forum has reiterated its call for soldiers to be deployed to help combat gang and gun-related violence.
This comes after Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile stated that there was no need to deploy the military into the area.
Patekile commented while delivering the province’s 2024/2025 third-quarter crime statistics on Tuesday, 25 February.

According to the commissioner, the police have the situation under control.
However, the chairperson of the Cape Flats Safety Forum, Albie Isaacs, believes ending gang violence should be a priority, adding the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) can assist
“Noting the fact that this month, we’ve just started off this month, it’s the month of human rights and we’ll definitely continue in terms of the human rights perspective to the right to life, to continue support and push for the deployment of the South African Defence Force”
