Listen below:
Jerome Barnes is a former principal dancer with the Scottish Ballet, who trained with the Royal Ballet School.
He has been dancing since he was in primary school, and initially took up ballet as part of his running training.
He joined ballet classes at 8 or 9 years old, and joined the Royal Ballet school after a year.
He is currently in Cape Town and will be playing the male lead, Prince Albrecht, in Gisele - with the Cape Town City Ballet.
He says he particularly enjoys the acting side of ballet, which he gets to show in the production.
“I particularly love the emotion in Act 2… it is so powerful.”

He will also be performing in Raymonda, where he will dance the Pas de Dix from the 3rd act, and in Dane Hurst’s Requiem.
“It takes discipline to go from one to the other.”
