CapeTalk's John Maytham speaks to Stormers head coach John Dobson about the gritty win over the Bulls this past weekend.
Listen below:
The DHL Stormers showed incredible character to claim a hard-fought 19-16 win against the Vodacom Bulls in the pouring rain at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 1 March.
The first half was a tense affair, with the teams trading penalties throughout.
The Vodacom Bulls were reduced to 14 when Willie le Roux was shown a yellow card for a cynical offence, but the wet conditions made it difficult for the DHL Stormers to take advantage of the extra man in the backline.
The visitors hung in the fight and refused to take a backwards step, ending the first half with a slender 12-9 advantage.
The second half saw both teams score one try, with the game in the balance until the final whistle.
"It's exactly what we wanted and planned for... it's once every blue moon when a plan comes together," says Dobson.
Dobson says upcoming matches look promising as personnel changes will be made to the front row to 'boost morale'.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Damian Willemse and Manie Libbok are back in action, out of injury and ready to go for the next few games which will be 'a massive boost' for the team.
The Stormers aim to make the top eight on the United Rugby Championship (URC) log and head off to the play-offs, says Dobson.
Cape Town's pride and joy will be back in action to take on the Scarlets on 22 March at 5 pm.
