Listen below:
Over 1.5 million SASSA grant beneficiaries still need to migrate their SASSA gold cards to the black PostBank cards before 20 March.
After 20 March, the gold cards will no longer be effective - which means recipients will have issues receiving their grant.
However, grants can be paid directly into a recipient’s bank account.
TymeBank is one of the banks offering assistance to help recipients receive their social grants.
A person can open a TymeBank account on their website or visit a kiosk at most Pick n Pay, TFG or Boxer stores.
They will then need to submit a 'proof of bank account' to their nearest SASSA office, and tell them that they would like to use their TymeBank account to receive their grant payment.
“SASSA has to process that request via one of their offices, and there is quite a bit of documentation, but I would like to believe that the process is slightly easier than what we have been seeing unfold.”
- Cheslyn Jacobs, Chief Commercial Officer at TymeBank

Jacobs says that TymeBank is one of the most affordable banks in the country - meaning SASSA recipients will not lose out by opening an account.
He says almost every single core banking transaction is free, and they do have a free withdrawal option.
