Woman who can smell Parkinson’s is helping Michael J. Fox Foundation develop detection test

Joy Milne has a condition called hyperosmia, which is essentially an extremely powerful sense of smell.
This condition gives her the ability to smell diseases, including Parkinson’s.
She says she smelt that her late husband had the illness 17 years before he was diagnosed.
Milne is a former nurse who claims all diseases smell different to her.
“It seems like there are people, and even doctors, who have done it over the years with success.”

She is now working with the Michael J. Fox Foundation to develop a swab test to diagnose Parkinson’s.
While there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, treatment and surgery can help improve a person’s quality of life.
