While choirs aren’t always represented in the mainstream media, they are alive and thriving.

Working with the Ndlovu Youth Choir, the Drakensberg Boys Choir and the Rodean School Choir, Schmitt has seen the reach choir music has across South Africa.

Just last month, the University of Pretoria’s Tuks Camerata choir showcased their talent in the US at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association.

“We are a nation of song… We’re a very emotive country and we express that very often through music and that is why we have such a rich musical heritage.”
