JOHANNESBURG - Pikitup employees resumed their waste collection duties on Friday after two days of protests this week.
The employees protested outside Joburg Mayor Dada Morero's office, demanding that Pikitup's staff transport service be continued.
According to the waste collection utility, the service was discontinued due to safety concerns arising from the taxi industry.
The taxi industry claimed that they are legally authorised to transport them.

It's understood that stakeholder discussions are continuing in efforts to resolve the issue.
Pikitup says 10 out of 12 depots are collecting waste bins outside residents' homes.
Spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi says residents whose waste collection is scheduled for Friday should place their bins outside for collection.
"The following depots are servicing residents: Randburg; Avalon; Marlboro; Orange Farm; Southdale; Norwood; Central Camp; Zondi; Roodepoort; Midrand. Workers at these depots resumed duties while management as their representatives, and other stakeholders continue discussions to resolve the ongoing grievances."
