A TikTok user who goes by @attorneyryan had some advice on what to do if your boss is a micromanager.

"Sometimes micromanagement is an illegal form of retaliation but most of the time your boss is just being a jerk," he explains.

To combat micromanagers, he recommends clapping back with 'malicious compliance' by telling them every little thing you're doing all day long.

Two things are bound to happen once malicious compliance is implemented:

  1. The micromanager will be satisfied and get off your back.
  2. More likely; the micromanager will get sick of being so involved in every task you're updating them on that they'll stop micromanaging you.

"A micromanaging boss is a boss who doesn't trust you and you deserve better than to work for someone who doesn't trust you," he says.

"Maybe there are cases where the employee is slacking and you have to do what you need to do as a manager. But in most cases, it's people who can't let go of control... They have to be in control of everything and can't delegate things..."
