Kfm 94.5's Carl Wastie speaks to legendary comedian Marc Lottering.
Listen below:
Two things about Marc Lottering... there's never a dull moment and he's always doing the most!
Marc stopped by The Flash Drive to chat about his new show: Marc Eugene Lottering directed by Anwar McKay - now on at The Star Theatre District Six Homecoming Centre until Sunday, 13 April 2025.
In this one, Lottering shares personal stories with the audience that he has never shared before - you can tell because the show is named after Marc's FULL government name.
Lottering also shares his findings on where he thinks his colourful family tree stems from.
As is to be expected, his viewpoints are hilariously outrageous, as his mom, when he was little, promised him that they were all originally 'blonde German-Caribbeans'.
This critically acclaimed show enjoyed sold-out seasons in Joburg and Cape Town, with many fans claiming this is the best Lottering offering yet.
To see if that's true, go to the show... tickets are available at Webtickets.
"The show is very personal... I tell stories in the show that I've not shared with the audience before... I was so freaked out when I developed the show because every comedian is always going: but is it funny? You can say shocking things to people... but is it funny?"
- Marc Lottering
"But when we launched the show in Johannesburg, it really, really worked... one of the lighter issues in the show is my second name... I don't actually know where it comes from but - and the audience agrees with me - it's not a sexy name. It's not a name you expect to hear in a moment of passion... but I've got to live with that."
- Marc Lottering
Marc says the show also delves into part of his life growing up in Paarl, the 'secrecy that brown people have about where they come from', funerals and meeting unexpected family members, aunties' birthday parties where Marc found out more about who he is, life at school and varsity, childhood milestones, being engaged and getting married... and the other chapters of his life which contributed to who he is.
"The response to the show has been people saying, 'We cried with laughter and at other times, we just cried...' The loyal Marc Lottering fans say to me, 'Marc, for us, it's the best show we've ever seen'... I've been doing this for 28 years and that for me is the best kind of feedback I can get because you don't just want to go on stage and make jokes. I'd like to think that I'm still able to move people and offer people something fresh and different."
- Marc Lottering
"I want my people to see this show..."
- Marc Lottering
